Liatris, often known as Blazing Star or Gayfeather is an American Native species. They bear strong tall wands of small, fluffy purple flowers every summer. They are very popular as cut flowers and unusual in that they start blooming at the top of the spike, working their way downward. The flowers are very attractive to bees and butterflies. This vigorous, long-lived perennial that will add grace to your garden with their grassy dark green leaves.
Plant in full sun to part shade in sandy to average soil and appears to be tolerant of dry soil. They grow to a height of 24 – 36 inches tall and are hardy in zones 4-9.
Liatris are great for beds and borders, meadow gardens, butterfly gardens and massed.
