Corkscrew Willow (salix matsudana ‘Tortusa’) – also known as Curly Willow is one of the fastest growing trees around and recognized by its long, graceful leaves and curly, contorted branches. This much loved willow is known for its graceful twisting limbs which are especially noticeable during the winter after the leaves have fallen.  The limbs grow horizontal and upright, unlike the weeping willow.   This beautiful tree will give you four seasons of interest with flowers appearing as catkins in early spring followed by narrow, light green leaves in the summer. In fall the leaves turn an interesting golden yellow before falling off to reveal the unique contorted and twisted branches for winter interest.

Corkscrew Willows are very adaptable in most soils and tolerates both sun or part shade.  However they are best grown in full sun in well-drained, moist soil. The challenge with the Corkscrew Willow is it has moisture-seeking shallow roots so best not to plant near sewer lines or patios.

The natural curly willow branches are a popular item for florists and make a great addition to a variety of different floral arrangements.
