Lamium maculatum (Spotted Dead Nettle)
A member of the mint family and an attractive, eye catching evergreen perennial groundcover for shaded areas of the garden. One of our favorites! Grown mainly for its spreading colorful foliage, small yellow flowers appear in June. Lamium is a low maintenance plant the adds a variegated color that can brighten up any shady area. Foliage is an attractive two tones that add interest to the garden even when not in bloom.
Will tolerate sun if watered frequently. Appears to be fairly drought resistant once established as well as deer resistant. Great companion plants for Hosta, Bugleweed, Ferns, Lenton Rose and Bleeding Heart. Plant as a groundcover, under trees, or even in containers. A unique addition to any garden!
Propagate by division or runners that have rooted in the spring. Cutback after flowering for neatness and to maintain desired shape. Grows best in partial to light shade in most soils that are well drained. Hardy in zones 4-9.
