Variegated Liriope (Lirope muscari ‘Variegata’)Also known as Lilyturf is the perfect choice for any area of your garden – sun or shade, under trees, along walkways in any type of soil. These must have perennial grasses grow in clumps that are about 1- 1/1/2 feet tall and half as wide. They keep their color throughout the season and most of the winter. In the fall , you will find 8 – 10 inch spikes of purple flowers coming from the clumps. These flowers are followed by dark purple berries.
Variegated Liriope is one of my favorite perennials as I can place them almost anywhere for accent or color and they will grow beautifully. The variegated foliage makes the plant “pop” in your garden and are noticeable from a distance. I use variegated liriope in border plantings and have never been disappointed. They are extremely hardy and can be split or divided in the fall or spring to make more plants for your garden or to share with friends.
Plant these wonderful plants 1 to 2 feet apart and you will be happy with the result! The foliage will look pretty good all winter and then come spring, new shoots will emerge as the old growth dies back.
