Maiden Pink (Dianthus deltoides) – This easy care perennial forms a low spreading matt of grassy, bright, semi-evergreen leaves studded with bright pink, red or white flowers in spring. Fragrant single flowers are usually 2 to a stalk. Will bloom for many weeks in early summer with repeat blooms when faded flowers are removed. The perfect plant for new gardeners!
Great choice for poor soils or hot and sunny sites. Adds color and a softness when planted near the front of flower beds. Also used in rock gardens, as a edging plant or ground cover. Also excellent in mixed containers for terrace or patios to add that bright red or pink splash of color.
Often self-sows and hardy in zones 3-9. Plant in full sun. A moderate grower that will reach a height of 6-12 inches with a 12 inch spread. Attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds.
