Heartleaf Bergenia, Pigsqueak – A luscious evergreen perennial ground cover that is delightful, durable and colorful. The evergreen leaves are shiny with a leathery heart shaped appearance. Rub the leaves together for a sound that gave this wonderful plant its’ name – pigsqueak.

Early to late spring, Bergenia plants will shine when bright pink/red flower clusters appear above thick stems. Not unusual to get some reblooms throughout the summer.

Falls cooler weather causes the leaves to turn a stunning red/bronze color giving you year round interest for your garden. Use the Bergenia in containers, rock gardens, or as a durable evergreen ground cover.

Plant in average, well draining soil where they will form dense, expanding clumps of eye catching beauty. Clean up any dead leaves in the fall but do not shear to ground as they need their leaves over winter for food. Hardy zones 4-9
